  • On 1 November 2009 the staff of the Permanent Representation of Poland to the Council of Europe participated in a prayer meeting at the graves of the Polish soldiers on the Military Cemetery in Cronenbourg (Strasbourg).

The prayer meeting was organised by the Priest of the Polish catholic community and the Vicar of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Strasbourg, Canon Ryszard Górski. The Polish officers - members of the Eurocorps in Strasbourg, together with their General, Mr Grzegorz Buszka, participated in the event as well.

On the Cronenbourg Military Cemetery there are 32 tombs of Polish soldiers and prisoners of war who were killed in the years 1940-1941. The graves of 23 soldiers were moved to the Military Cemetery from the Town Cemetery upon the initiative of the Polish Consul General in Strasbourg. The whole operation was carried out in autumn 2003 by and at the cost of the French Ministry of Defense and the Strasbourg authorities.

A solemn consecration of the graves took place on 13 November 2003. Mr Piotr Szymanowski, the Polish Consul General in Strasbourg, the Strasbourg Mayor, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of France, colour guard, Polish priests, families of the fallen, representatives of the local Polonia, as well as the local press and TV participated in the event.

Every year, representatives of the Polish missions in Strasbourg - the Consulate General and now the Permanent Representation of Poland to the Council of Europe - lay flowers on the graves of the Polish soldiers.
