  • On 30 June 2010 in Palais de l'Europe in Strasbourg a farewell reception was held in honour of Ambassador Piotr A. Świtalski, who ends his nearly 5-year mission at the Council of Europe.

The reception was organised by Ambassador of Malta, Mr Joseph Licari - Dean of the diplomatic corps in Strasbourg. Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, and numerous ambassadors of Member States of the Council of Europe participated. At the same time the Committee of Ministers bid farewell to Ambassador of Sweden, Per Sjögren, also leaving his post.

The reception offered a good opportunity for all to express their appreciation to both Ambassadors who - as the Dean of the diplomatic corps highlighted - had served as a genuine rock for the Committee of Ministers for many years. In this way the Dean referred to the fact that the Council of Europe was saying goodbye to two "Peters" on Peter's day.

Ambassador Piotr A. Świtalski had held the function of the Permanent Representative of Poland to the Council of Europe since 25 November 2005. He will assume the post of the Director of Policy Planning at the Secretariat of the Council of Europe as from September 2010.
