  • Strasbourg, 02.12.2008 - Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship (Poland), Adam Struzik, received from the hands of Yavuz Mildon, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the Prize of the Regions of the Council of Europe awarded to Mazovia. The award ceremony took place during the Congress autumn session in Strasbourg.

    The Prize was launched by the Congress in May 2008. The theme chosen for 2008 was "Promoting Social Cohesion through Economic Development". 36 regions from 13 Member States of the Council of Europe participated in the competition.

    The jury chaired by Yavuz Mildon, President of the Congress decided to honour five regions. Apart from Mazovia, prizes were awarded to Berlin (Germany), Kahramanmaraş (Turkey), Voivodina (Serbia) and Wales (United Kingdom). Special distinctions were also awarded to the authorities of Bacau (Romania) and Piraeus (Greece).

    Mazowieckie Voivodeship was rewarded for the rural development and equalisation programme.
